Sunday 23 July 2017 AM - Ps Mark Riddell - Better Together - Part 6: Relationships Are Work Part 1
July 23, 2017 12:28 AM PDT
Ps Mark opens with humbling himself and telling us that he is preaching to himself on this topic, with us listening in. He then leads some volunteers into a hilarious 3-legged race (it was a tie). Together they were better? The topic for today ......
"Relationships Are Work ". Really? Don't they come naturally if you are connected with compatible people? Ps Mark is not referring to just anyone, but to the church, Christians, the Body of Christ. What does God have to say about this topic? .....
Hebrews 12:14 - "Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord."
Yep. Ps Mark aligns with God - WORK - we need to work at relationships with one another. He then elaborates in depth as to how we can do this and what is required of us. The work is worth it. God commands us to do it. It helps us to stay young. Much more .....
And ..... "work at living a holy life". What does it mean to be holy? How can we be holy? What is really required of us to be holy? Don't fret! It actually is possible for us to do this. (3-legged race, anyone?).
We are members of the church; we all need to know how to do these things in today's message.Sunday 16 July 2017 AM - Ps Hugh Perry - Better Together - Part 5: Praise and Worship
July 15, 2017 10:07 PM PDT
Psalm 133:1 "How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!"
Ps Hugh leads off reminding us that unity is both good and pleasant. There is power in unity. Whatever we may do by ourselves, it's a higher form when the congregation comes together in unity. 2 Chronicles 11-14 demonstrates that, when a congregation is in unity, the power and presence of God can descend so intensely that everyone fell on the floor. But that was then and this is now, eh? No!
It is true that some congregations these days have come to see a church praise and worship service more as a concert. Ps Hugh reminds us that the worship team doesn't contain stars - they are facilitators. We, the congregation, are the performers. God is the audience of One. Ps Hugh points out that praise and worship is a time of intimacy with God. We do not need to fear His presence if we are born again. We need to desire God and that can come about through praise and worship.
And that power was not just for those in the ancient times of Biblical days. Ps Hugh relates a number of modern testimonies of where a whole congregation was overcome by God's presence during praise and worship; some other times when the enemy was defeated. How good is all that? Referring to several scriptures and a number of present-day stories, Ps Hugh succeeds in encouraging us all to worship and enter the presence of God.Sunday 09 July 2017 AM - Ps Mark Riddell - Better Together - Part 4: The Lego Principle Part 2
July 09, 2017 01:05 AM PDT
Last week we had Part 1 of The Lego Principle - designed for one purpose - to Connect. Ps Mark begins with a quick revision of that message and then provides us with a dictionary definition of Connect: To attach, to associate, to bond. All the differing parts of Lego are not much good alone - connected they are Better Together and can make a Millennium Falcon (Star Wars!).
From Mark 12: 28-31 we see that Jesus has told us that the summary of the whole law was to love (connect with) God and with others. This is the essence of Discipleship. Using numerous other scriptures Ps Mark elaborates on discipleship and its relationship with God and people. Discipleship is not merely teaching - it is relationship, connecting.
We need to be healthy in our souls, we need relationship, we need to connect, we are Better Together, we need discipleship ..... Don't miss the pathway to obedience in this message.Sunday 02 July 2017 AM - Ps Mark Riddell - Better Together - Part 3: The Lego Principle Part 1
July 02, 2017 04:08 AM PDT
This message becomes with two parts:
- What's Lego got to do with anything?
And Lego? Lego is like any congregation over the whole world ..... It comes in all sizes, shapes, colours, and attributes. However, Lego and all people, Christians or not, have been created for one common purpose ..... Ps Mark will explain it all .....Sunday 25 June 2017 AM - Ps Phil Cavanagh - Better Together - Part 2: Still Better Together
June 25, 2017 07:04 PM PDT
Last week's message by Ps Phil was the last of the "Thrive" series. It was titled, "Better Together". As Citicoast transitions into a new format and culture of Connect Groups we have adpopted the slogan "Better Together" and today's message is now Part 2 of series under that title.
Ps Phil begins by discussing the power of a congregation's praise and worship as others walk into an amazing atmosphere. The praise and worship is better when we are together. Ps Phil then leads on to personal friendships and how we are all better together with friends. How can we make friends? How can we keep them? Ps Phil elaborates on Getting Together and Staying Together. He then discusses the following points for friendship:
There are 100s of Bible references on all those points! The phrase 'love one another' occurs more than 100 times itself. Don't ever think that you don't contribute - just being present, being together, is powerful. Don't miss out.Sunday 18 June 2017 PM - Ps Phil Cavanagh - Thrive - Part 11: Better Together
June 18, 2017 06:09 PM PDT
The secular world well knows, as evidenced by such famous songs as, "People Need People" and phrases such as, "lonely old soul", that we need to be connected. And, of course, the Bible well records that this is God's will for us all. Ps Phil grasps this passionately to let us us know that we need other people in order to Thrive. With numerous scriptures to validate this, Ps Phil demonstrates that we are Better Together, He opens his heart to us by relating times in his life when he was alone and how that caused him to be diminished, to not be thriving. He also hilariously relates other anecdotes of how he can fail in his contribution to being together.
Society cannot exist without groups: marriage, families, schools, sporting teams, governments, businesses ..... There are three attributes that contribute to the success of being connected to a group of other people: Unity, Humility, and Love.
Ps Phil elablorates on all these as well as discussing three aspects that may hinder our own ability to belong to to a group, to be connected to people. Surely we want to be better, and we will be 'Better Together'!Sunday 18 June 2017 AM - Ps Mark Riddell - Thrive - Part 10: Citizenship
June 17, 2017 11:53 PM PDT
This is the next to final message in this series on Thrive: If our souls thrive then all other aspects of our beings and lives will also thrive. Citizenship of both Heaven and Earth - dual citizenship! Ps Mark shows how the story of Jacob's Ladder (Genesis 28:10-17) tells us that we are citizens of heaven and that God's House on earth is us, the church, the born again Christians, and that we are ambassadors of Christ on earth.
What are the characteristics of having dual citizenship and, especially, what are the characteristics of being an ambassador? Ps Mark refers to numerous scriptures in both Testaments to lay out what of heaven we, as ambassadors, have access to while we are still here. This is a most exciting message and the details will surely raise faith, passion and determination - a grand conclusion to Ps Mark's contribution to this series on Thrive (the last Thrive message is the PM one from Ps Phil).Sunday 11 June 2017 PM - Michael Bowen - Thrive - Part 9: The Joy of the Lord is Your Strength
June 11, 2017 04:18 AM PDT
Joy! Something that our souls are desperate for. Happiness is fleeting but joy is permanent. Nehemiah 8: Michael reads from verse 1 but then focusses on v10 - the verse that contains the Subject for our message here. In this chapter of Nehemiah, over 40,000 people are assembled to hear the word of God read to them. This reading filled their souls with joy.
From that point Michael uses several scriptures from both the New Testament and the Old Testament that show us what joy is and how to attain it. Some aspects are:
- Joy is one of the Fruits of the Spirit.
June 11, 2017 12:10 AM PDT
There are two parts to Ps Mark's message this time - both are related to prospering our soul and Thriving. Coming soon will be a major new approach to the structure and variety of Connect Groups, based on "Body, Soul, and Spirit". The Ministry Team have been discussing this all year and they will introduce the changes in August. Don't miss this section of the message.
Continuing the actual Thrive series, Ps Mark suggests that we, as a whole society, are obssessed with the word, 'love' ..... We love certain foods, we love a TV show or a movie, we love our children, we love our spouses, we love our favorite colours ..... Which is the Real Love?
Our souls long for this real love. From 1 Corinthians 13 we see how God defines real love. He created love, so He knows!
Verse 7: Love ..... "Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
The Greek language language is, in some ways, deeper than English. (e.g. There are 6-8 different Greek words for 'love', describing the different ways of loving). Ps Mark expounds on the words, 'bear', 'believes', 'hopes', and 'endures, using practical illustrations, so that we can apply these scriptures into our own lives.Sunday 04 JUne 2017 AM - Ps Mark Riddell - Thrive - Part 7: Welcome Home
June 04, 2017 02:31 AM PDT
Ps Mark commences lightheartedly with some hilarious anecdotes of what it's like to be away from home, especially when camping, and how good it is when we get back home. Then he goes deeply into answering some questions, very important questions for the health and prosperity of our souls:
- What is the origin of our soul?
And what do the Bargara turtles and sea salmon have to do with all this?
